Sammy Mafany

Sammy Mafany was born in Buea, in the South West Region and began performing with musical groups there. He became the main proponent of Ngom’a Wetuli or shoulder dancer. This is a compendium of the basic traditional rhytms of the Bakweri of the south west. Sammy was a member of the national Orchestra of the national Ensemble.

For many years now, the south west province has failed to produce any musician worth the name, in spite of the apparement musical boom in the republic of Cameroon. It would appear at the moment that Sammy Mafany has broken that myth, and has through his album, launched the south west province into the same plane as the littoral and west provinces in particular.

Mafany registered remarkable progress and performed in grand events in Africa, Europe and Asia. Among others, he was selected to go to France to sell the bakweri and Cameroon culture during the 1998 world cup and kuala Lumpur in Malaysia during the 1998 commonwealth Games. For almost 30 years Sammy has lived in Yaounde and got married there to his dear wife Clementine Andoula Mafany from the earstern province. He maintened very good human and public relations with the people he came across. He was honored with a medal and won many trophies.
